Compared with the Standard issue dated 1999, the scope of the Standard revision dated 2005 was expanded to cover similar structures (e.g. galleries, noise-suppression tunnels and underpasses), the terminology was refined and new terms were added, primarily regarding new terms, terminology contained in new fire regulations and terms used in the area of tunnel equipment. Safety categories were added to the standard and its content was refined in accordance with the provisions of revised standards ČSN 73 6101 and ČSN 73 6110, both dated 2004. The stipulations of the Standard were modified and amended in the parts dealing with structural safety measures and the tunnel design regarding operational safety, tunnel drainage, tunnel structure surfaces, noise protection, measures to restrict the effect of stray currents, water supply, tunnel equipment and fire safety. This Standard applies to the designing, geometric design and equipment of newly designed tunnels on highways, motorways and urban roads. Reconstruction and new equipment of existing tunnels is to follow the stipulations of this standard to a maximum applicable extent. The Standard does not apply to tunnels on urban roads carrying public rail traffic, separate tunnels on roads which are not used by motor-powered vehicles and tunnels on tertiary roads. The Standard does not contain detailed guidance for structural analyses of tunnels, tunnel construction and tunnel equipment calculation procedures.
